Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, aka Saint Dominic, is the largest city as well as the capital of the Dominican Republic. Before the arrival of Christopher Colombus, the island’s territory was made up of five chiefdoms (a form of hierarchical political organization in non-industrial societies). When Spanish settled the island and founded the city of Santo Domingo, officially from 5th of August 1498, became the oldes European city in the Americas. Santo Domingo went through many revolutions and power changes as well as occupation by the United States from 1916-1924. The city was struck by hurricaneSan Zenòn in 1930, which caused major demage. At the end of the second day we headed out to visit a farm. It is owned by the family of our new friends and they were kind enough to take us there so we were able to see how locals live and how the perform a sustainable lifestyle.
