Puerto Plata
the home of 27 waterfalls Do you know those advertisements, when some people are hiking through a rainforest and then on a sudden they find themselves at a beautiful waterfall or river? So do you think it possible? You are right, our tourgides took us to a place, called Puerto Plata. The most amazing, hidden treasure of the world. But first thing first, you have to find the way there, since the focus is on hidde, eventhough it’s a kind of a tourist destination it is not easy to find. A good GPS as well as a map and a little help is highly recommended. The moment you get there they are going to assign a tourgide for you, who will take you up to the furthest waterfall. You have to rent an additional waterproof, non-slip shoes and they will provide you life vest and helmet as well. Now, there is an option if you don’t have an action camera, to pay for a guy who comes with you on this tour and take photos of you and at the end he will give the photosto you on a pendrive. If you don’t have an own camera I highly recommend this option, it is worth it.

Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, aka Saint Dominic, is the largest city as well as the capital of the Dominican Republic. Before the arrival of Christopher Colombus, the island’s territory was made up of five chiefdoms (a form of hierarchical political organization in non-industrial societies). When Spanish settled the island and founded the city of Santo Domingo, officially from 5th of August 1498, became the oldes European city in the Americas. Santo Domingo went through many revolutions and power changes as well as occupation by the United States from 1916-1924. The city was struck by hurricaneSan Zenòn in 1930, which caused major demage. At the end of the second day we headed out to visit a farm. It is owned by the family of our new friends and they were kind enough to take us there so we were able to see how locals live and how the perform a sustainable lifestyle.

Punta Cana
On the third day we headed to Punta Cana which was a rather long drive as well as exhausting. By the time we got there we were really tired. One thing to keep in mind when you are choosing to drive is that the highways in the Dominican Republic are not toll free, I mean not all of them. The one which connects Santo Domingo and Punta Cana are definitely not one of the free ones. The day we arrived to Punta Cana we had some dinner and we searched for our AirB&B apartment, did I not told you yet that we were on a low budget trip? Yeah we were, but there were amazing AirB&B’s so it’s an affordable way to travel.

Dominican Republic
The fourth day was bittersweet. I knew I had to leave, but there is so much more to that island that needs to be explored and the time is never enough. To chase my sadness away we went out to the beach and enjoyed the view of the azur blue sea again one final time before I took off. This was the day of relaxation and cherish of the moments and memories we shared on the way. I am truly thankful that I was able to travel here with a great friend.
