🧐DYK: The blue blood of horseshoe crabs is used in tests to ensure injectable medications aren’t contaminated. The proteins in their blood is used to create the LAL test, which screens medical products for bacteria. Many of the horseshoe crabs are harvested from SC shores, they extract their blood, then return them to the ocean.
