Festa de São João do Porto has been celebrated in Porto for more than six centuries. Originally, an event reserved solely for the night of 23 June, the festival of the 21st century now lasts longer than six weeks.
Many traditions are found in this festival. At neighborhood parties, it is common to see guests jumping traditional bonfires. In the city, revellers roam the streets hitting each other on the head with plastic hammers. In the window sills, potted basil plants are set out with traditional verses from Portuguese literature.
Perhaps the pinnacle of festival season is on the night of 23 June. At midnight, boats crowd the Douro River, and crowds the north and south banks to watch a spectacular fireworks display.
Bad Religion - The punk rock band Bad Religion was created in Los Angeles, California, in 1980. It gained major success when it became signed under Atlantic Records in 1993. They revived the punk rock music of the '90s. The only constant member of the group so far is Greg Graffin.
Death Cab for Cutie - Known for melodious tracks with deep lyrics and unconventional instrumentation, like, "I'll Follow You Into The Dark," Death Cab for Cutie is an alternative rock band from Washington. Their 2008 music video, "I Will Possess Your Heart," won the Best Editing award at the MTV VMAs.
