Since 1974, when they were featured in the James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun, Khao Phing Kan and Ko Ta Pu have been popularly called James Bond Island. In the film, Francisco Scaramanga describes Ko Ta Pu as a "mushroom-shaped rock", which houses two large solar panels that come up on top of Ko Ta Pu and lock on to the Sun. The film opens on Khao Phing Kan where we are introduced to Scaramanga (the titular character) and his henchmen Nick Nack. There are so many shots of this beautiful beach and once secluded island.
