Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
posted in Bali, Indonesia
Entry into the monkey forest costs IDR 40'000 (about 3 Fr.) for adults. Ubud's Monkey Forest is well known and loved. Visitors can take pictures with the monkeys and walk around in the park. I have to say honestly, walking around was more fun. I have a lot of respect for the monkeys because they can become aggressive and argue among themselves. Moreover, it is not uncommon for them to steal things from tourists. I even saw a monkey on the street (not in the forest anymore) steal the whole plastic bag full of food. So, bring no food and keep the camera well. Many travel doctors also advise against a visit, as the monkeys can bite and infect you with rabies. Of course these are exceptional cases but you should still enjoy the forest with care.
