Cherokee National Forest
40 minutes north-east is the underrated Cherokee National Forest. Here you can feel safe solo hiking as the forest is well equipt with rangers and cell service. Not to mention of the best, hidden waterfalls in the southeast. Hike up the Chilhowee overlook and see why German, Scotish and Irish settlers chose this area to call home.
