🚊KNOW THIS: Drivers in the Lowcountry are frustrated by the lack of laws to prevent trains from blocking intersections. The last law to protect drivers was drafted in 1902 and involves a $5-$20 fine for conductors who are blocking an intersection for more than 5 minutes. This law isn’t enforced because it’s “not a worthwhile investment of resources.” At this time, federal law prevents any harsher penalties for the trains, but Mayor Summey is working on creating an overpass to help with traffic.
