June 9th Motown Throwdown - The Party at the Point happy hour concert series is back for the 2023 season. This family-friendly event is hosted on the beachfront of Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina and features live music, food, and drinks. Free parking is available along the road leading into the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina.

North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center

The Best of Broadway series will host its annual  “Select Your Seat” open house party on Tuesday, June 6th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Broadway fans are invited to come out and “select their seats” for the 2023 – 2024 season. The party features live music, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a wine tasting, giveaways, and backstage tours. The first 100 people through the door will receive a free Mean Girls coffee mug. The party and parking are free. For fans who are unable to attend the open house party, season tickets are on sale now and available online at www.northcharlestoncoliseumpac.com or by calling the season ticket hotline at (843) 202-ARTS (2787). Single show tickets will go on sale at a later date. The national tours of HADESTOWN and SIX will make their Lowcountry premieres part of the 2023 – 2024 Best of Broadway season at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. HADESTOWN performances are January 2 – 7, 2024 and SIX performances are March 12 – 17, 2024. Each show will offer eight performances. The Best of Broadway series will welcome five additional shows including: COME FROM AWAY (October 20 – 22, 2023); PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL (December 1 – 3, 2023); MY FAIR LADY (February 9 – 11, 2024); and MEAN GIRLS (April 26 – 28, 2024). In addition, STOMP (May 10 – 11, 2024) returns as a special bonus. All performances are at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. In addition to having the same seat for all performances, Best of Broadway season ticket holders enjoy many other benefits such as free parking to season shows, priority access to tickets for North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center events before they go on public sale and special discounts & offers. The best way to secure your seats to all of the 2023 – 2024 shows is to become a Best of Broadway season ticket holder. Season tickets are on sale now. Season ticket packages start at only $318. The Lowcountry Juneteenth Week Festival is back with another star -studded affair highlighting Black Excellence with food, music & more. The week will come to a close with a star-studded weekend with live performances by GOODIE MOB Featuring CEE LO GREEN on Friday June 16th and a special concert finale Saturday June 17th. On behalf of The Miller Gallery and Charleston artist Olivia Bonilla, you're invited to a special opening reception featuring Bonilla’s newest collection of work, Grass is Greener on Thursday June 8 from 6 til 9pm. Sip crisp beverages and enjoy Bonilla’s first solo showcase in Charleston. The pristine, camera-ready warehouse space at Silver Hill Studios creates the perfect venue for Bonilla’s larger-than-life confectionary sculptures in Grass is Greener. A first generation Colombian-American artist, Bonilla focuses on unconventional materials such as pigmented cement and automotive paint in an array of hues, bringing us a fresh addition to the contemporary sculpture scene since 2018. During Grass is Greener visitors will experience a visual playground Cement transforms into frothy landscapes, resin drips appear wet to the touch, and automotive paint culture cross pollinates with Pop Art. This exhibition is an invitation to navigate nostalgia in a new way. Indulge in not-so- edible resin confection. Giant cement cupcakes, a towering wall of rainbow gummy bears, a 4 foot tall tongue-tied cherry, and a “sculpture garden” awash in color are just a few of the enchanting elements you’ll experience in this art show. A show for all ages, for Grass is Greener Bonilla brings back the color palettes of the 70s- 90s, three-dimensionally. Bonilla has taken the better part of a year to develop the largest works in this collection, eloquently adding to her artistic vocabulary. By creating her own silicone molds of sculpted cement she has been able to deepen the narrative of her work. Bonilla will be debuting a new series of classical sculpture reproductions that embody the bridge between Art History and color theory. With a BFA in painting, Bonilla revisits the influence of her classical training through an interpretation of the infamous “Nefertiti” sculpture and the “Head of David’'. Timely subjects to be included in her first large scale solo show, these two antiquated subjects have been brought back from the dead with a nod to today’s cultural celebration of Queens and sexualized masterpieces from the history books.
