Today I met with an 88 year old woman named Rose in the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭 She was 10 years old when WWII started and her country was under control of the Japanese. She told me harrowing stories about being held hostage for years, where she was only fed 1 meal a day and had to dig a hole in the sand to hide from being killed. If she made the slightest mistake, then she would get a limb cut off, which she saw happen to her friends and family. It’s important than we must never forget these tragedies that happened in the past — in our parents and grandparents lifetimes. Today reminded me of the day I visited Auschwitz in Poland and the Toul Sleng genocide museum in Phnom Penh... that feeling like you got punched in the stomach.
