The Lowcountry Juneteenth Week Festival is back with another star -studded affair highlighting Black Excellence with food, music & more. The week will come to a close with a star-studded weekend with live performances by GOODIE MOB Featuring CEE LO GREEN on Friday June 16th and a special concert finale Saturday June 17th. North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center

The Best of Broadway series will host its annual  “Select Your Seat” open house party on Tuesday, June 6th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Broadway fans are invited to come out and “select their seats” for the 2023 – 2024 season. The party features live music, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a wine tasting, giveaways, and backstage tours. The first 100 people through the door will receive a free Mean Girls coffee mug. The party and parking are free. For fans who are unable to attend the open house party, season tickets are on sale now and available online at www.northcharlestoncoliseumpac.com or by calling the season ticket hotline at (843) 202-ARTS (2787). Single show tickets will go on sale at a later date. The national tours of HADESTOWN and SIX will make their Lowcountry premieres part of the 2023 – 2024 Best of Broadway season at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. HADESTOWN performances are January 2 – 7, 2024 and SIX performances are March 12 – 17, 2024. Each show will offer eight performances. The Best of Broadway series will welcome five additional shows including: COME FROM AWAY (October 20 – 22, 2023); PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL (December 1 – 3, 2023); MY FAIR LADY (February 9 – 11, 2024); and MEAN GIRLS (April 26 – 28, 2024). In addition, STOMP (May 10 – 11, 2024) returns as a special bonus. All performances are at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. In addition to having the same seat for all performances, Best of Broadway season ticket holders enjoy many other benefits such as free parking to season shows, priority access to tickets for North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center events before they go on public sale and special discounts & offers. Join us for a community discussion held on the Common Ground with Commonhouse Aleworks as part of our event series Brewing on Books: A Community Book Club. This series focuses on local topics of interest for community members. For Park Circle's annual Gay Pride Festival, we're hosting author Harlan Greene for a discussion of Charleston's little-known LGBTQ history from the author's new book, The Real Rainbow Row. Much has been written of the city’s history of civil rights, and its rich African American, women’s, ethnic, and religious past. One of the minority groups long left out of the club has been Charleston’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and other sexual minorities community. It’s not that they haven’t been here all along, making history, contributing greatly to the creation of one of America’s most distinctive cities. But, even now, with so many people out and acknowledged, marching in the streets, being elected to public office, and marrying, there are still discrepancies. There are no statues to LGBTQ people (while some discriminatory statutes linger), and very few official mentions anywhere. While other pasts blaze brightly, there is just a flickering of knowledge about local LGBTQ history. About the Author Harlan Greene is author of the novels Why We Never Danced the Charleston, What the Dead Remember and The German Officer's Boy. His non-fiction works include Charleston: City of Memory (with photographs by N. Jane Iseley), Mr. Skylark: John Bennett and the Charleston Renaissance and Slave Badges and the Slave-Hire System in Charleston, South Carolina, 1783-1865 (with Harry S. Hutchins Jr. and Brian E. Hutchins). With James Hutchisson, he co-edited Renaissance in Charleston: Art and Life in the Carolina Lowcountry, 1900-1940. The Real Rainbow Row is his latest release.
