Fern Grotto
Fern Grotto just barely makes the list and only does because of its proximity to secret falls. Fern Grotto is the epitome of a tourist attraction. Where you could once walk up into the grotto and see the draping ferns hang from the mountain above, now you are only allowed access to the viewing platform. Secret falls is really the main attraction on this adventure. Instead of making a left at the fork of the river, make a right and head down until you reach a small landing site. Once you dismount, head down the path until you can hear the sounds of the distant falls and make your way toward them. Once you arrive you will find a stunning waterfall plummeting into a small lagoon where you can swim or relax on the surrounding rocks. This is a great day time trip as you will be shielded from the hot afternoon sun by rich rainforest. Expert Tip: Don’t plan a tour to the grotto. Instead rent a kayak and go at your own pace. As an added bonus, rent the kayak from Kamokila Hawaiian village, where you can get a glimpse of what life was like hundreds of years ago on this small Garden Island in Hawaii.
