Atacama Region
At the end of my drive across the Andes from Bolivia, I reached a point where 4 countries met each other in one place. We drove west to Atacama, a small city built in the world’s driest place on earth (this is where many mars scenes or planet scenes were filmed). Some parts have not seen a rainfall for hundreds of years. When some drops fall once a year the desert turns pink from flowers. I even went sandboarding there. The ground was red sand with quartz rocks shining everywhere.
