Although the wholeslae market, i.e. the inner market with its famous tuna auction, of Tsukiji Fish Market has, it is still well worth visiting the outer market with its high-quality shops and restaurants, including a number of Michelin starred resturants. If you are curious about the famous tuna auction you should head to the new Toyosu Market at 5am on any morning.

My crew headed to this fish market at 3:30am and spent hours wandering the hectic, sensory overload maze of exotic right-out-of-the-ocean seafood. Caution- the hardworking fisherman and auctioneers here are not super thrilled about tourists gaucking over their business, so lay low and be respectful.

One of my favorite spots in tokyo, especially if you like sushi. Although many of the famous spots have moved to the new Toyosu market, this one feels way more authentic and in my opinion the sushi was just as good. You can find great handmade dishes and cups to take home and tons of great food sold by street vendors. If you are lucky you might be there when one of the shops are cutting a huge tuna outside!
