In Mexico, James Bond and CIA buddy Felix Leiter, in the film License to Kill, find drug lord Sanchez (Robert Davi) at the Isla Mujeres, an island about eight miles off the Yucatán Peninsula coast in the Caribbean Sea.

Isla Mujeres is located in Cancun and is ideal for a short stay. It is very well known to snorkel or dive from there. Especially depending on the season with whale or bull sharks. There is also a well-known underwater museum which you can only reach by boat. Otherwise you can just relax on the small island. Many tourists rent a golf cart to explore the island. These cost a little more and so I would rather recommend a scooter or a bike (price necessarily negotiate!) The ferry from Cancun to Isla Mujeres (return) costs 300 pesos and runs every half hour during the day.

We loved the principle of using only small cars. The water is transparent. Nevertheless, it is becoming more and more touristy.

It’s quite a touristy destination but if you’re able to rent an ATV, you can drive around the island in a short period of time there. The beach is beautiful, lush and includes some clear, warm waters.
