The Giants Causeway is a true geological phenomenon and well worth a day trip to see if you are visiting Ireland or NI. If you can get there before the tour buses arrive you will have a better chance of getting a clear photo of this magnificent coastline.

Interesting story behind this beautiful, natural formation. I did a Paddywagon tour that allowed me to visit Giants Causeway along with the Dark Hedges! I highly recommend eating lunch at the Nook at the Causeway- a cozy converted schoolhouse with a delicious menu.

There are two theories to how the unique structure of Giant's Causeway is formed - some said it was caused by a massive ancient volcanic fissure eruption, some suggested the 40,000 basalt columns were formed by a giant. Either way it is a very special place like nothing else I have ever seen, I can spend hours walking up and down the columns imagining I am following the footsteps of a giant.

We started our van tour to giants causeway around 9:30. Again, like most tours, we do little photo op stops along the way. The first one was to a 13th century castle that was built by the water in Belfast (Sadly, I can’t remember the name). We couldn’t go inside, so what better thing to do then to climb the rocks surrounding it by the water and sit on it’s ledge!? Sitting there on the ledge of the castle, staring out at the ocean gave me such overwhelming peace. I could’ve sat there all day and been content with my entire life.

A cluster of basalt columns that rise from the sea and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

This magnificent causeway was formed by an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. The result was 40,000 different height columns of basalt that interlock together. Have fun walking it!
