Alcatraz Island

I don't usually enjoy overly tourist places, but I always make an exception for Alcatraz. The audio tour brings the place to life, and you can really imagine what it was to be on the inside. Tickets usually sell out 2 or 3 months before, so make sure to reserve a spot in advance.

I unfortunately can only show you photos of Alcatraz from a distance. When I went to book a tour one month before visiting, they were sold out for tours over Labor Day weekend. So if this is something you’re wanting to do, book early!

I loved our Alcatraz tour. The view of the city from the island is stunning and the audio tour is really, really good. I recommend booking on a day the farmer’s market is happening so you can stop there first for breakfast, then catch an 11am tour to Alcatraz a few piers down. Make sure to book tickets well in advance (think at least a month) because they sell out quickly. Also bring layers, it can get cold out there!

Head down to Pier 39 and grab yourself a ticket for Alcatraz Island and walk in the foot steps of murderers. Insane stories told through the handheld audio device. Great fun for all.
