Sa Pa has been gaining popularity and for good reason. It's stunning, relaxing, and eye-opening. I would recommend trying to organise a private homestay and really get to know the locals. No matter the weather; fog or sun; I was always in awe of the views of rice fields.

We did a 2 day hike / 1 night stay at a local family in the Hills of Sapa. It was an incredible experience. We spend the night with a family of 5. The mom gave birth to a new baby only 5 days prior to us arriving, so the older boy took charge. We helped him go and picked ingredients for dinner in their own veg garden, helped him cooked & do the dishes (Vietnames style). The dinner with the family included lots of great food & 'happy water' shooters. We had a blast. Such an authentic Vientamese experience. The hike was easy enough for our 4 year old daughter. The sleeper train to SAPA was great fun too.
