MUSC’s chief of pediatric critical care says her department is seeing high numbers of kids in the ICU and emergency room with respiratory diseases. In particular, Dr. Elizabeth Mack says doctors are treating a lot of RSV, or Respiratory Cyntial Virus which impacts infants. Infants struggle with breathing and coughing because their airways are smaller and take a hard hit when they get the sicknesses, which affects adults like a common cold.

🦠COVID UPDATE: MUSC reported that case numbers dropped 21% to 5,300 during the week of Sep.7-14 compared to 6,700 the previous week. Although this is a good sign, the trajectory of the surge is still uncertain according to MUSC doctors.

💉KNOW THIS: Starting today, MUSC is authorized to administer 3rd doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunocompromised individuals. The recommended time between the second and third dose is 28 days and it must be the same vaccine as the first two doses. They recommend speaking with your healthcare provider to see if you qualify for a third dose.
