The 2023 Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival returns this weekend to celebrate the fishing and shrimping industry in Mount Pleasant. This free event will feature a boat parade, live music, a craft show, a shag dance competition, and a shrimp eating contest. The festival also includes a ceremonial blessing of the fleet, aka the shrimp + fishing boats. Bring your appetite for seafood and other bites from local vendors including Gilligan’s, Not Just Franks Cafe, Mazyck’s Grille, and Graze.

Charleston County Parks’ Inclusive Superhero Dance Party returns to Mount Pleasant this spring. People with disabilities and their families and caregivers are invited to this evening event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th at the Cooper River Room in Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.

🚶‍♀️4TH ANNUAL BRIDGE TO RECOVERY WALK: 4-7PM. The walk is hosted by FAVOR Lowcountry, a group that “promotes the long-term recovery from substance use disorders." From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., guests can enjoy food and dessert trucks, jump castles, face painting, music, and more. The first hour will be filled with music, speakers, and introductions. The actual bridge walk will take place at 5:00 p.m.

🧺SWEETGRASS BASKET FESTIVAL: 10AM-3PM. Free admission.The annual Sweetgrass Festival in Mount Pleasant is designed to promote and bring attention to the contributions of the Gullah people’s history, culture, traditions and their sweetgrass basket art form that originated in Mount Pleasant and continues to exist in our town and surrounding communities today. Offering free admission, entertainment and activities, the Sweetgrass Festival also provides an opportunity for local basket makers to showcase, promote and market their sweetgrass merchandise to locals as well as cultural tourists from around the country.
