The Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce (MPCC) and the Town of Mount Pleasant have joined forces to encourage residents to support local restaurants and other food and beverage establishments. The campaign begins on January 15th and will continue through the end of February. Every week, the Chamber will give away a $50 gift card for a Mount Pleasant restaurant to one lucky diner who posts a photo of his or her dining experience at a participating Mount Pleasant establishment on Instagram or Facebook and follows the instructions on how to enter. 😱BALLOON CAUSES POWER OUTAGE: Nearly 1,500 people were without power in the Mount Pleasant area Sunday evening, according to Dominion Energy. The company confirmed that the outage was caused by a mylar-type ballon coming into contact with the power lines. The energy company reported 1,486 of its customers were without power as of 5:45 p.m. The affected area was centered around a portion of Rifle Range Road, from just past Bowman Road to Magnolia Woods Drive.

🏃🏼‍♀️BRIDGE RUN ROAD CLOSURES: Mt. Pleasant PD announced Mt. Pleasant road closures for the Cooper River Bridge run today. On Saturday, Coleman Blvd from Fairmont Ave to Hibben St will close at 4am, Chuck Dawley at Myrick will close at 4am, Coleman from Live Oak Dr to Chuck Dasldg will close at 5am, and the ramp to the Ravenel from Coleman will close at 6am. The pedestrian walkway of the bridge closes at 6:30 and the bridge closes at 7am.

🐊GATOR ATTACK: A man in Mount Pleasant was walking his dog along a pond in his neighborhood and when he looked up, his dog was under the water. He was able to pull his dog out by the retractable leash and the dog lost its tail, but is still alive. DNR has seen an increase in injury reports from gators and they credit the cause to the increase in population and development within alligator habitat.

A BEAR 🐻 OH MY! Awendaw residents were surprised on Tuesday when they looked out to their dock and saw a black bear soaking up the sun. 🤫NEW NOISE ORDINANCE: Mount Pleasant Town Council on Tuesday approved a 90-day trial period for a new noise ordinance program. The new ordinance comes amid tension between Shem Creek residents and restaurants, specifically concerning loud music. During the trial, noise should not exceed 55 decibels as measured from the property where the complaint is being made. No citations will be issued during the trial period.

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) - The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is continuing honors for Lowcountry veterans this weekend. The museum is offering free admission for veterans as well as active-duty military members. Admission includes access to the USS Yorktown and the USS Laffey as well as the three-acre Vietnam War Experience. At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on November 12, The Citadel’s Summerall Guards will perform a silent precision drill on the Yorktown’s flight deck.
