🐢AQUARIUM EXPANSION: The aquarium is looking to expand its classroom space in order to serve more students in the Charleston community. Their space can currently accommodate 6,000 students per year, when the demand is really for 20,000 students. They are specifically aiming to serve Title 1 schools and underserved communities. The expansion will cost $5 million and if they are approved in the coming weeks, they plan to start renovations in early 2023 and bring in students in 2024.

🐠JuLionfish Festival: July is almost over, which means it's time to celebrate the lionfish at SC Aquarium! This exciting all-inclusive 21+ event includes live entertainment, lionfish tastings, small bites from local restaurants, beer and wine, and a silent auction! Learn more about the lionfish, connect with other like-minded folks and celebrate the divers who participated in the month-long JuLionfish Derby, a competition to remove as many invasive lionfish from South Carolina waters as possible. Tickets are $65, and member tickets are $60. *Proceeds benefit Reef Research, a South Carolina Aquarium program focused on offshore research and fieldwork for scientific discovery and sustaining a balanced ocean.

10 MILLION!?: Spring Break is on the horizon for schools across the country, and what better way is there to celebrate time off than by visiting the South Carolina Aquarium? For the D’Angelo family of Jacksonville, Florida, their Spring Break trip to Charleston became much more exciting as they redeemed their tickets and became the Aquarium’s 10 millionth visitor.

The South Carolina Aquarium is next month kicking off their series of 21+ After Hours events with the return of Oysterfest. The event will be held on Friday, February 25th at 7:30 pm. A VIP Hour starts at 6:30 pm. Guests can enjoy views of the Charleston Harbor while shucking freshly steamed oysters on the waterfront. In addition, there will be beer, wine, and small plates from local eateries. Attendees can also explore the Aquarium while enjoying food, drinks, entertainment, and animal encounters.

FEEL GOOD: The South Carolina Aquarium shared heartwarming news on Friday following the release of three young turtles back to their home at sea. Jade, Amber, and Emerald are the names of three juvenile sea turtles whose fates may have been much different had the community not intervened in March and April.
