If you're not a fan of scorpions, black widow spiders, and rattlesnakes, think twice before pitching your tent on the ground in this park. If you're down for an unconventional, free stay, you can make Carlsbad work. We found a campsite on the side of a public dirt road on the top of a rocky, cactus covered hill where we found all sorts of poisonous critters. We were out of money, daylight, and energy to go anywhere else so we cracked our beers and made the best of it. This place is sweltering hot in the summer, and I'd only recommend it if you need a cheap last resort. We spent the majority of our time playing cards in the back of the truck so the creepy crawlers wouldn't befriend us.

Looking to escape the hot summer sun? Head down 1000 feet and check out Carlsbad Caverns. Put you adventure hat on and discover the earth from below. Make sure you stick around to watch the bats exit the cave at sunset! (Watch out for them rattlesnakes though)

One of the best Cave Systems that I have visited. Exploring these caves in New Mexico is well worth the visit. The formations are incredible and the system is huge. It can take quite awhile to explore these caves.

In New Mexico, you will find the amazing Carlsbad Caverns. It is illegal to take photos here, so visiting is the best way to experience of course. After the tour of the caverns, you can view the bat’s exit from the cave, which takes place every night. Millions of bats exit their peaceful rest for the night, and it is truly a mesmerizing thing to watch.
