This is the go-to beach that my roommates take me to. I usually can’t control myself and enjoy dropping my balls at the feet of strangers to see if they are friends of the program or not. I’m pretty fast so if you can’t keep up, get the hell out of here.

DID YOU SEE IT? An annual solar eclipse took place this morning, when the moon passed between earth and the sun, partly obscuring the image of the sun from earth. In Charleston, enthusiast had only 7 minutes to view a partial ellipse from 6:14 to 6:21 AM!

🇺🇸KNOW THIS: Both Isle of Palms and Folly are expecting between 25,000 and 40,000 visitors for Memorial Day weekend. They are expecting the biggest crowd ever because all of the COVID restrictions have been lifted. Folly Beach's mayor is encouraging beach-goers to use the “BCDCOG Beach Reach” app. He says the app shows how the roads are looking as you head out to any of the beaches. With all that traffic, don't forget about the free CARTA shuttle from Mt. Pleasant to Isle of Palms!

Beach parking solved?! Isle of Palms, SCDOT have apparently reached an agreement on Palm Blvd parking solution. After multiple discussions between the South Carolina Department of Transportation and Isle of Palms City Council, the two sides seem to have hashed out a plan. Right now on the landward side of Palm Boulevard, drivers must parallel park. IOP city officials say SCDOT has proposed angled parking instead.

GOOD DAY FOR: Clean beaches. The Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew will be starting back up their grass-roots weekly sweeps every Monday through Labor Day, from 6 to 7 p.m. Participants can check-in on the beach side of the public beach walkover in the 1100 block of Ocean Boulevard, by the city showers and facilities. Volunteers are asked to help for 30 minutes, but are welcome to do more before relaxing at Ben & Jerry's or The Windjammer to socialize with a 25% discount.

🏖️BEACH PARKING: Gov. Henry McMaster has signed a bill that would ensure free parking and state control along public roads in beach towns. The bill would allow some paid parking, but requires beach towns to provide some free parking to visitors as well. The bill would also require local governments to get prior approval from the Department of Transportation before adding or making changes to parking on state highways. McMaster said the bill stems from the actions of one or more coastal communities to limit beach parking access during the COVID-19 pandemic 👀

⚠️PET OWNERS: The Isle of Palms Police Department asks people to use caution when walking small pets on Isle of Palms due to increased coyote sightings. Last year in April there were only 2 sightings, while this year there have been 12. If you do see one, report it to IOPPD’s emergency number (843) 886-6522. Also, they recommend making loud noises to scare aware coyotes and to never turn your back on them.

🚌LAST CHANCE: Today is the last day for the beach reach shuttle from Mount Pleasant to Isle of Palms. After the first year of it running, they have a few small adjustments to make, but overall things ran smoothly and it provides an option for people without cars and opens up parking on Isle of Palms.

Beach front parking kiosks remain disabled due to a software glitch that was overcharging payers. The issue “might” be fixed this week although the city is requesting (in a tall ask) that individuals use the Flowbird Parking App in the meantime.
