This national park is full of diverse sites to see. I got to see steam vents, the crater, and lava tubes. It sort of feels like you’re in a different planet because of all the lava rock. Recently there was an eruption, so parts of the park are blocked off.

Check park website for areas that are open after the May 2018 volcanic eruptions. Devastation trail, Thurston Lava Tube are easy hikes. Check out the sulfur fields and steam vents. Halema`uma`u crater is the main volcanic crater. Drive the Chain of Craters Road down to the coast and see a natural sea arch and hike old lava flows.

Recent but not active flows can be seen by hiking, boat or helicopter. Research online for best views based on current activity.
