being one of the most famous islands, is truly magnificent. It's an island that attracts many tourists, but once you've been you truly understand why. The cheapest way there is usually from Athens. I paid 20€ round trip for my ticket on a low cost airline. However, depending on the season and when you buy your ticket, they are usually higher than this. Another option is to take a ferry from Athens or another island. Getting around is quite easy. For less than 2€ you can take the local bus to Fira or other cities around the island. Taxis are very expensive. Like many, I opted to rent a quad for the day. For 25€ including insurance I had my own wheels. Reasonable priced lodging is relatively easy to find and numerous depending on the season. The beginning of November was perfect for me because there were less tourists than at the peak of summer, the weather was still sunny and warm, along with lower prices. On a tight budget, Gyros for 2.50€ quickly become your favorite meal. Oia is the epic village that's best to be visited right before sunset and then find your perfect spot to enjoy the spectacular sunset show. Fira, Pyrgos, and Red Beach were my other favorites to check out, each with their own charm and not to be missed!

I managed to visit Santorini as it's a personal bucket list travel destination. Santorini is different in every aspect from the rest of the Cyclades, it is shaped like a crescent moon around the caldera, a volcano crater, with the main settlements built along its imposing cliffs. Don’t expect white sandy beaches, or hills that are rough and dry: in Santorini you will discover black volcanic sand and beautiful, lush vineyards. The capital city of Fira, although mobbed by crowds most of the time, is charming and beautiful, especially in the mornings, while Oia, traditional and romantic, is the best place on the island to enjoy sunset and top-notch food. Because of its shape and the distances between beaches and towns, it is better to explore Santorini with a rented vehicle: tourist season on the island lasts from April to November, but if possible avoid August as the island is at its most crowded. If you like to explore and discover new places by yourself, then you definitely need to rent a car, ATV or scooter.

I would go back here 5 more times if I could and stay for a whole month. I can't even begin to explain the beauty of this island to you. You've seen pictures, so have I, but I about cried when I finally saw the sunsets here or the open ocean and white picturesque buildings. Best sunsets of my life, best greek food ever, handmade personalized sandals, ATV's as transporation, beachside poppin clubs and honestly what more could you ask for?! Caution: if you are banking on the ferry services in greece as transportation between islands - be careful or give yourself an extra day at the end of your greece itinerary just in case. The ferries go on strike ALL the time here or cancel transporation for the day. This happened to my friends and I and almost got us stranded and would have cost us $700+ more to get home in the end. Flights out of here to athens are not cheap and it is not fun when everyone is stranded and missing their next ferry or flight somewhere else.

Black sand? Red sand? White sand? Here in Santorini, you can choose your hike based on your favorite sand color. Don't miss the hike down to the Old Port in Fira, and the inexpensive boat ride out to Nea Kameni, Santorini's volcanic cone. Here, you can hike to the summit and take in 360-degree views of the ocean caldera around you. Red Beach and Katharos Beach also offer short trails and endless views.

That is one place one has to visit. The city of Thira is the biggest on the archipelago and overlooks the caldera and the blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Just mesmerising place with its narrow streets, beautiful churches and cave hotels/guest houses. A quad bike rental for the day is great and fun way to explore the island- The Black and Red Beaches are worth a visit and if you are into history , pay a visti to Akrotiri and the museum of the lost city of Atlantist!

We stayed in the apartment just next to the blue domed churches you see in most images. We went in April so prices for AirBnB were cheap. It was not too busy. Fira was like a ghost town but Oia was relatively busy. We visited an 800 year old church out on land extended out into the water, and had amazing food at Amoudi Bay. I thought about how it would feel to live here after retiring.

The whites and blues of Santorini are so instagrammable, it hurts. The views of the Greek Islands from Oia are absolutely stunning.

Little did you know Greece has some pretty great vineyards. If you stay in Santorini, many are within walking distance as you wander around the island. You'll find quite a few pairing experiences, too, with your tastings. Make reservations early for the best views overlooking the water.

I can't say it enough, Almost every place on this island is out of a post card. It's affordable to stay in other towns and take a day trip ot tei in Oia or stay there if you can afford to. Take a day cuise for about 45 euros, get to go around the whole island of Santorini with a hike up Nea Kameni where you spot sulphur springs around the island and you can swim in the sea where the hot springs meet the sea.

I remember thinking to myself, as I sat at a table drinking wine and looking out at the ocean, that at that moment I had peaked. The beauty of the city is unreal, and no pictures could ever do it justice. It may be on the more touristy side, but it is beautiful nonetheless.

I felt like I was in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Pristine white architecture contrasting with the rich blue sea is a view that'll never get old. I can still vividly remember how breathtaking the sunsets were!

Iconic white and blue buildings, as well as being home to both a black and a red sand beach, small enough to explore the whole island during your stay, perfect for renting ATVs or scooters
