Beautiful Italia. The first foreign country to become my home for the summer. Guys, I'm not going to lie, Florence, Italy was not my first choice for my study abroad. When I thought of Florence, I imagined the most touristy city on earth. I felt as if it were one of the most basic places a college student could go. BUT my angel of a roommate, Summer, convinced me to choose this magical place to go with her, and man am I glad she did! Of all the places I've ever traveled, Italy has now stolen first place as one of my favorite destinations. There's a joy that's indescribable in the air, beauty lies in every direction your eyes fall, and the feeling of home overwhelms you in each stranger's smile.

FIND A LOCAL GYM: Do some research before you head out of town. Find a local gym that allows tourist to use their facility for a day or two. Depending on the country, you might be able to access the gym for free or pay a small fee. When I was in Florence, Italy I found a gym not too far from my Airbnb. I was able to get a much-needed workout, after spending a week eating nothing but pasta and drink wine. Be sure to email the gym before your visit. You might get lucky and get free passes.

My next stop was to the region of tuscany. I’d heard a lot of hype from people about Florence, so I had some high expectations going in. I’ll cut to the point and just say that florence was my favorite city in Italy. It had all the beauty and history of Rome, but with a modern and young atmosphere. its kind of like Rome’s cooler and trendier sister. They’re both great, but you would probably rather party with Florence.

Florence is brilliant once you've got past all the main touristy bits and you start finding all the hidden gems down the alleyways. In comparison to a lot of the other cities in Italy the bars and restaurants were really modern!

Florence is famous for a reason. With authentic food, grand views of an ancient city, and enough history to keep you occupied for days, Florence is one of the best places to travel to while visiting Italy.

The city is an open museum and the simple act of walking around is on its own enjoyable. One need to keep an eye on the different street art projects that are everywhere if street art is of interest

My favourite city in the world, and the place I got married. Florence is steeped in history and art. The architecture is beautiful, humbling and iconic, as many buildings were built in the renaissance period. The food ive tasted is the best in all of Italy. The wine from the Chianti region is world class, and the many artisans in the Oltrarno district of the city making their own shoes, bags, jewellery and clothing add something truly unique to the city.

Florence makes it on our list because it's in the heart of the Tuscany region in Italy. Compared to Rome, this city is less busy and more relaxed. Florence is full of art museums, historic churches, and is surrounded by wineries.

I have travelled to Florence twice and am eager to go back! The Italian food here is better than any other Roman city I have visited. It has much less of a big city feel than Rome, and the culture is much more rich, which I really appreciate.

Being in Florence is like an Assassin's Creed map...literally... they used Florence. The stunning Renaissance Architecture wows you every direction you look. I highly recommend climbing to the top of the Cathedral around sunset for an unforgettable view. Go to Osteria Santo Spirito for the best gnocchi you've ever had. Unfortunately I don't remember where I went, but ask the locals for the best "Bistecca Fiorentina" for a delectable steak that could feed about 4 people. Lastly, don't dare leave the city without taking in the views from Piazzale Michelangelo.

Florence is a central city in the beautiful Tuscany region of Italy. It it the birthplace of the Renaissance and the famous Medici family that played an important part in the financial & political history of Italy. It is noted for its culture, Renaissance art & architecture. While in Florence i would make sure you visit: The Uffizi Gallery (where the David is), Galleria dell’Academia, Piazza Della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio (famous watch bridge), Santa Maria del Fiore (photo above), and my favorite, watching sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo where you can sit with a bottle of wine at sunset and look out over the whole city.
