Speaking of travelling back in time, you don’t need a time machine, just travel to Cuba! What an experience this is! Old cars, houses, colours and clothes, this place is taken straight out of a 70s movie 🙌🏽

We booked our day trip to Havana from some random guy on the beach which could have been a disaster let’s be honest. Our guide and driver showed up right on time and we could tell right away we were in good hands. Our guide was the sh*t. Seriously the nicest guy ever and super smart and funny. The drive took about 2.5 hours with a stop at a beautiful look out. Got me a fancy Pina Colada made right in a pineapple! After our pit stop, we continued on to Havana! I thought I would see one or two of those fancy old school cars but they are literally EVERYWHERE! They are so gorgeous and you guys know how obsessed I am with bright colours so I was in heaven! When we got to the city, we were instantly immersed into the fascinating Cuban culture. I’ll be honest, I knew nothing about Cuban history (I know, I know, I live in a bubble!) It was super interesting to learn about everything that Cuba has been through, especially since our guide had lived through a lot of it and we got first hand experience!

Can’t speak highly enough about Havana. It’s like stepping back into the 1940’s, 1950’s and 60‘s. The ingenuity and spirit of the Cuban people is amazing, showing up best in the loving care and attention paid to keeping old American cars from the post-war period running and looking beautiful. Walking around the streets of the old town is sublime - much of the 16th Century Spanish colonial architecture has been restored. The people are wonderful and friendly. The Rum is cheap and delicious and music seems to be playing everywhere. The food, notoriously bad given the economic impositions of the government, is starting to improve as individual proprietors are allowed to open up small restaurants, ”paladars”, and do well leveraging fresh local ingredients.

The juxtaposition of the dilapidated architecture but the eternal optimism of its inhabitants. Havana has a raucous nightlife fuelled by rum and rhumba!

One of the most unique places in the world, Old Havana is like visiting a film set. Lap it up, but don't forget to see the real city that's yet to be restored.
