If you keep walking down the left side you can jump over and sit in the middle of the water on this long dirt path and just watch the sunset (not a lot of people know but do it)

The amazingly intricate "old bridge" provides a remarkable view of both the Arno River and the hills that lead to San Miniato. Full of gold shops and crawling with tourists, the Ponte Vecchio is a very popular photo attraction for those visiting Florence. Pro-tip: The best view of the Ponte Vecchio is from the Ponte Trinita, go during the day and at night for two different photo opportunities!
