Seljalandsfoss
This stunning waterfall can be seen from the roadway but it's best seen from behind the powerful spray. An easily navigated trail leads to the cavern behind the falls allowing you to stand within the waterfall itself while only getting minimally wet.

Solheimasandur Plane Wreck
Requiring a little bit of a hike and a break in the windy winter weather, this US DC plane has been sitting on the black sand beach since 1973. Great for taking dramatic photographs and far enough from the road that few tourists make it.

Seljavallalaug Swimming Pool
Hidden hot springs are a favorite in Iceland. After a day driving around battling the cold, there's nothing better than sinking into the warm natural pools.

Dyrhólaey
The infamous black sand beach. If you're traveling in the winter you also have the added bonus of puffins nesting in the cliffside.

Svartifoss
Iceland is the land of waterfalls but this one is unique. The sharp geometric back drop of the basalt columns contrast with the glacial waters cascading down it.

Jökulsárlón
Also known as Diamond Beach, this lagoon catches the drifting chunks of iceberg as they break off the glacier. Seal spotting in the region is also very popular.

Egilsstaðir
Rent an Airbnb in this region. The winding drive along the coastline has some of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen in my life. (and most treacherous roads). It's a great opportunity to see the countryside and stay near some beautiful snow-capped mountains.

An Iceland icon. A massive falls and one that shouldn't be missed.

Indian Curry House
Oddly enough the most popular restaurant amoung the locals. Opened by a Indian immigrant they are serving up steaming hot authentic Indian cuisine.

Kirkjufell
This oddly shaped mountain is the main attraction on Snæfellsnes peninsula. If you get a fog-less day it is a beautiful sight.

Port Arnarstapi
Volcanic lava cooled by the icy waters and shaped into dramatic arches and pathways. Birds nest within the rocks and soar above the water and black sand below.

Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur
Claimed to be the best hotdogs in the world. Certainly some of the most famous. Cheap, tasty, and served out of a small hotdog stand in an alley, you have to get it with "the works".

Blue Lagoon
The most touristy thing on this list. More like a spa than a natural hot spring but it can't be missed. Bright blue water and black volcanic rock make for quite the mystical vibe.

Vatnajokull
Upon first sight of the Vatnojukoll Glacier you'll find a service road to your left. Unmarked and rough to drive it leads to the foot of the glacier. The winds are amplified here but it's worth it to get a close up look at this giant chunk of ice.

Vatnajokull
Europe's largest glacier. There is nothing like it. You can take guided tours of the Ice caves carved by the wind and walk atop it. It's the only tour I recommend.

Like setting foot on Mars. Bubbling sulphor pits and colorful mineral deposits dot the landscape.

Hellnar Primus Kaffi
The best lamb stew I had in iceland. This unassuming coffee house has warm coffee, local blueberry ice cream, and all-you-can-eat lamb stew. It looks and feels like a home and the decor is from all through-out Iceland's history. Books, arrowheads, and whale bones are scattered through the many rooms.

Silfra Diving
An experience unique to Iceland. Both snorkeling and diving are offered where the two tectonic plates meet. 100 meters of visibility make for some of the clearest diving in the world.
