Irazú Volcano
Take a tour for about $70-$100 from San jose or a $10 bus to Volcano Irazu. There's a 1.5 km steep and short hike to a cold and breezy peak but I guarantee that you'll break to a sweat. Perfect morning trip.

It takes 3.5 hours by bus from San Jose. Really great beaches, Sloths and so many bird speacies in Manuel Antonio park, and if you like Parasailing, this is a great opportunity!

Llanos de Cortés
There are many hiking opportunities that lead you to sulphur mud springs and waterfalls. Catarata Llanos des Cortes is a 20 monutes drive from Liberia and perfect day trip. Bring food, and a blanket and have a picnic as you swim on the pool by the waterfall.

Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
For $15, this is close to liberia and is a full day walking trail through the national park. Lots of monkeys. There are three trails to choose from. The 3km to the sulphur springs or the 10.2 km walk to the Cangreja falls (not allowed to swim but everyone does), or the 12km hike. I was tired but it was so so worth it.
