Mesa Verde National Park
Visiting Mesa Verde was on my list from childhood. I finally went decades later with my own child. Mesa Verde is an archeological site of cliff dwellings. You need to take a tour and be prepared to walk, trek and climb up ladders. An amazing experience!

The Stanley Hotel
Here’s Johnny! This is the place to stay in Estes Park! This stately hotel dates back over 100 years and is a comfortable place to rest after a day outdoors. A simple recommendation is to sit on the front porch with a cup of coffee in the morning!

Silverton
The best route to this high elevation western town is by the old steam train from Durango. This is an old Silver Mining town that looks like it is from a movie set. We spent the night here and made our way down by bus along the Million Dollar Highway. A great little town in the middle of nowhere!

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum
This is one of the most picturesque train rides EVER! Starting in Durango, you make your way up on an old steam train hugging the Anamas River. The gauge is narrow so you are very close to the lush trees and mountains. The ending point is Silverton, another recommendation of mine!

Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center
One of the best things to do in Colorado, especially if you love animals! This wildlife center has rescued wolves in captivity and gives educational tours on those wolves. Pay the extra money to sit in with a wolf and get sweet kisses from one. An incredible experience with these beautiful animals.

Gold Mine Tours Inc .
Well this was fun! This gold mine tour brings you 100 stories down into the earth by taking a little lift. You throw on hard hats and walk through the tunnels created by the miners and learn how they worked and lived.

Kathmandu Restaurant
I have been to this restaurant a couple of times since I have family living close to Nederland. This is a great Nepalese restaurant tucked in the mountains. Great food and a bit unexpected for the location. It is not the easiest place to get to from Boulder but worth a visit if you are driving through the mountains.

Rocky Mountain National Park
What a place! The Rocky Mountain National Park is breathtaking. Seriously it is, if you drive far enough you will reach the tundras where the air is so scarce nothing really grows. This is a great place for family vacations or nature enthusiasts. A lot to see here including wildlife, nature centers and incredible hikes.

Million Dollar Highway, Ride Across America
The drive or coach ride along this highway is incredible! We took the coach down from Silverton after we took the train up from Durango. One of the prettiest drives along the mountains of Colorado.

NCAR Mesa Laboratory
For weather nerds or those who are with weather nerds. Actually this center offers interesting free exhibits, a self guided tour and artwork by local artists. The building’s architecture is beautiful and was designed by I.M. Pei. Spending a couple hours here in great especially with family travel.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre
If you can see a concert here, you will love the natural acoustics and the views. I actually flew out here just to see a concert by myself and fell in love with this venue. It is nestled within the red rocks and is an outdoor music experience with a great view of Denver.

Yes, it is a bit touristy but Pearl Street is a great place to walk around and get a bite to eat. There are several restaurants and can make for a pleasant evening out for couples and families alike.
