Sweet Diner
One of the few non-chain restaurants that opens before 7AM, Sweet Diner is chic in a hipsters-in-warehouses vibe that only a Third Ward restaurant can be. Stop in there early for a coffee at their bar or sit down with some chicken and waffles - at 6AM, you'll almost have the place to yourself (just don't dance on the table).

Blue's Egg
Pick a location - Bluemound or Oakland and just go for the browns and coffee. Trust me on this one.

They lure you in with their donut-of-the-day and then keep you trapped with a Tex-Mex inspired breakfast menu.

Maxfield's Pancake House
Every city needs its cozy little diner - Maxfield's waves from the border of Milwaukee and Ozaukee county, no man's land if you assume that all of the interesting stuff is only happening in Bay View and Walker's Point.

Café Hollander
Not quite as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as its 6AM and 7AM alternatives but Cafe Hollander and its sister restaurants know that even early birds need a morning-after Bloody Mary at 8:00. They'll even ease you into the day with Belgian waffles and frites.

Mad Rooster Cafe
If you think little ol' Wisconsin can't pull of huevos rancheros, think again. Also the restaurant is charmingly shaped like a barn and any restaurant shaped like a barn clearly knows their stuff. But if you are a grumpy and mean old soul who likes no light in their life, there's literally a Target right across the parking lot to cheer you up.

Simple Cafe Milwaukee
As Phil Collins sang, "put your faith in restaurants that have seasonal menus" - you'll always have the freshest ingredients topping your plate and a delicious coffee to wake you up regardless of the time of year.

Brunch
This place might actually be sunshine in restaurant form. It sits right in the heart of Downtown (so good luck with parking later in the day) but the fun and straightforward menu - plus an ever-revoling breakfast Chef's Special - means that you'll get your day started on the right note.
