✈️ WATCH PLANES AT THE AIRPORT OVERLOOK. The Charlotte Douglas Airport is one of few airports in the country that has as a viewing area for the public. It offers a close-up, unobstructed look at planes as they take off, with the Charlotte skyline in the background. The area is pretty simple with a parking lot and a few benches for seating and many people bring a picnic blanket or tailgate in their vehicle. If you decide to visit it’s a good idea to consider the timing to make sure there will be enough planes taking off. It’s usually fairly busy but you can easily check for departure stats with a quick google search of the day you are going. There isn’t any shade here or restrooms so keep that in mind if you visit.
