Ireland
I have been to the Emerald Isle three times in the last decade and I am not done with it yet. I love this country for its natural beauty, enchanting folklore, friendly people and their love for whiskey. There are so many places to see outside of Dublin and easy to get to by train or coach if you are not driving. View my recommendations of my best of Ireland and Dublin!

St Patrick's Cathedral
This 800+ year old church is one of Ireland's largest and most important cathedrals. St. Patrick’s is one of Dublin's most beloved sites and it is still a working church for the Catholic faith.

Hop On Hop Off Tour Dublin
This is a great way to see the city and get form one place to the other if it is your first visit to Dublin. Typically when I take these types of buses, I circle the city once to hear the history and get a layout of the land. Then I get off where I need to and walk from there. The prices for one or two days are rather inexpensive and you have the freedom of how much time you want to stay at a certain attraction. Plus on board, you sometimes get coupons or discounts for other attractions or restaurants. All in all, it is a very good deal.

Kilmainham Gaol
This late 1700s built prison, now museum, in Dublin offers an interesting look into the history of Ireland's past prison system. Although it can be depressing to hear stories of children taken prisoner because they were hungry, there have also been many famous political and military leaders held here.

Butlers Chocolate Café, Grafton Street
There are a few Butler's around Dublin and I always feel the need to stop in when I see them. They make wonderful chocolates, truffles and a serious hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was my coffee in the morning while in Dublin. Butler's is one serious chocolate shoppe!

Saint Stephen's Green
St. Stephen's Green is one of Dublin's loveliest parks. It is not as large as Phoenix Park so you can quickly get from one side to the other. There are many sculptures as well as a duck pond filled with many types of birds. It is a lovely place to walk, relax and get your bearings before touring the city more.

Old Mill Restaurant
Although this place could be considered a tourist trap, I like the food very much. I have been here twice in the last decade because they offer good priced lunch specials, the food is rather good and the service is friendly. It is also located in Temple Bar so you do not have to go too far if you are in the area.

Guinness Storehouse
I am not a beer drinker but I did appreciate the tour of Guinness. It is a fascinating look of the original site and it is still a working brewery. At the end of your tour, you will be treated to a pint at their Gravity Bar with panoramic views of the city.

Jameson Distillery Bow St.
Get your whiskey on! Although this is not where the main working distillery is located, the Bow Street location is the original distillery. There are different types of tours you can take. I recommend taking the regular tour plus the secret tasting tour. You can try different levels of Jameson's that are not offered on the regular tour. It was a pretty lit experience! There is also a nice cafe that you can get food from the time it opens until it closes.

Dublin Literary Pub Crawl
Follow the steps of some of Ireland's famous writers while having a pint or two. For me it was a glass of wine or two! There are several tour companies that offer these pub crawls. So if you like literature and pubs, you will enjoy this pub crawl.

Dublin Castle
Although Dublin Castle has rebuilt over the past centuries it still remains an important landmark to see due to its historic background. It is currently a major Irish Government Center in Ireland.

Phoenix Park
Phoneix Park is one of the largest recreational facilities in Dublin and lies to the west of the city. There are many things to do in this beautiful park such as visit the gardens, view deer in the park, cycle and run. You can also visit Dublin zoo, Magazine Fort and Ashtown Castle. If you are taking the Hop on Hop off bus, it drops off and picks up within the park.

Jameson Distillery Bow St.
Although this location is not where Jameson currently produces their smooth whiskey, you can still visit the original Bow Street location for a virtual tour and tasting. Pure whiskey fun!

Day Tours from Dublin
One of my favorite things in Dublin is to use this city as a home base to see other parts of the country. There are various day trips that you can take to Cliffs of Moher, Northern Ireland, Powerscourt Estate- just to name a few.

St Michan's Church
If you touch the mummy, you will have a lifetime of good luck. That is what I was told when I touched the leathery finger of the Crusader mummy below St. Michan's church. If you want your lifetime of good luck, touch the mummy- if you dare!

Beshoff's O'Connell Street
Fish and Chips! Beshoff's is a very popular chippy in Dublin. It is casual counter service restaurant but in a very nice atmosphere. The servings are generous so come in hungry!

Temple Bar
Located a short walk from the River Liffey, Temple Bar is alive from daytime into nightime. This district is full of shops, ebtertaiment, restaurants and you guessed it… BARS! It is a lively place to grab some traditional Irish food and a pint during your Dublin visit.
