Temple of Heaven
Get up early and have a huge breakfast before you head towards the Temple of Heaven. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the imperial complex played host to annual ceremonies of prayer. These days, the sprawling gardens here are where locals love to hang out and play chess, perform Chinese opera and fan dances. From there, take a leisurely boat trip on Kunming Lake to get to the beautiful Summer Palace.
