Bill's Steak & Hoagies
Do NOT sleep on this place, they have the best value for a quick breakfast, the cheesiest BEC, and their lunches (hoagies) are bomb. All for crazy low prices right in the heart of center city. Plus the service is quick, friendly and clean.

Chicken cutlet heaven, also the white bean and cabbage is unreal. This is real Italian deli food found in the burbs right over the city line. Soooooo gooooooood.

New Deck Tavern
An Irish restaurant/bar with actual good food. The spinach and crispy chicken salad is a personal fav. Fun spot in U-City, stay after dinner for Quizzo!

2nd Story Brewing
Brewery serving their own beer, limited wine choices and homemade food, including handcut, perfectly salted fires. Located in old city, it's a great spot to stop in at their ample bar space or sit for a meal if you have the time.

Federal Donuts
There are several FedNuts around Philly now and they are all good. If you like denser, cakey donuts this should be a morning (or afternoon) stop for you. They always have their basic flavors, but there is an always changing menu of limited and seasonal flavors as well. If you're hungry for real food try their fried chicken while you're there. You won't be disappointed.

Spasso Italian Grill
Great indoor view of the bridge and intimate atmosphere. The bar has a cool old school vibe and the homemade papardelle solves carb cravings.

LaScala's
Huge pasta portions, the ricotta board as an appetizer is delicious. Good for families with children. Casual atmosphere, reasonable prices and large menu. Solid, basic Italian.

John's Water Ice
We always forget how foreign a concept water ice is to anyone outside of the Philly area. Such a shame so many people miss out. Don't be one of them, go to John's in south when you're here and pick one of many flavors or do a little combo. Really delicious and refreshing. *Note: there are other water ice places around that are fine but John's is better...we promise.

Capogiro Gelato Artisans
Although we cannot claim gelato as a Philly invention obviously, Capogiro is all we need to feel like we're on vaca in Europe. The flavors are inventive and impossibly rich and creamy. Chocolate lovers will die over the dark chocolate.

Sang Kee Peking Duck House
Americanized chinese food gets a little more authentic at Sang Kee in Wynnewood. The big bowls of noodle soup are the epitome of comfort food and the rest of the menu is just as flavorful and delicious. Tip: start with the coconut flounder to share

Wawa
There are literally WaWas all over the Philly area, if you want to see what the hype is about just stop in and order a subpar (but somehow delicious?) sandwhich or grab one of the many premade snacks/meals.

North Bowl
Pool, bowling, two bars, tater tots til your heart's content. This place was made for fun. North Bowl is fun all year long with the added bonus of cornhole out front in the warm months. It's relatively inexpensive and a great place for a large group. Make reservations for bowling or just enjoy billiards and arcade games on the second floor. Any way you play, North Bowl is a good time.

Independence Beer Garden
During the summer months, Philly has started a questionable tradition of a mid-week (Wednesday) happy hour across center city. There is a long list of participating bars and restaurants with great food and drink deal normally cheaper than regular happy hour prices! Beware of places that cater to the younger crowds though as these Wednesday party spots have become a bit rowdy (read gross and belligerent

Doma Japanese Restaurant
Small BYOB sushi restaurant on Callowhill, serving fantastic, fresh sushi. The sweet potato roll is very good if you're not in a fishy mood.
