Chornobyl
A visit to the haunting desolation of the abandoned city of Pripyat, in the Chernobyl exclusion zone is well worth the 4 hour round trip from Kiev. The history of the disaster is one that is not widely known, and a visit to the epicentre of the 1986 catastrophe gives a fascinating but harrowing insight into the mistakes and misinformation that occurred on April 26th 1986. Sadly looted and now in ruins, a day exploring the city of Pripyat still affords the opportunity of stepping back in time.
