Commander's Palace
Unlike so many well-established New Orleans institutions, Commander's Palace continues to exceed expectations. Considerate and attentive staff, reasonable prices (hello, 25 cent martinis at lunch!), and consistently stellar meals makes this my favorite of the bougie old guard dining options.

The Sazerac Bar
The ONLY place I can order a ramos gin fizz guilt free. I love this foamy tower of a cocktail, but i cannot in good conscience ask someone to make it except for at the Sazerac bar because, well, they know what they're getting in to.

Liuzza's by the Track
The. Best. Barbecue. Shrimp. Don't even think about going during Jazzfest unless you plan to fight a crowd, but that barbecue shrimp, sopped up with some crusty french bread is a one way ticket to fat kid heaven.

Dooky Chase Restaurant
Do yourself a favor and look up Leah Chase on wikipedia. When you're as in love with her as you should be, go check out her restaurant, serving up classic cajun and old school upscale french cuisine. It's best known for Gumbo Z'Herbes (green gumbo), served up on Holy Thursday.

Jacques-Imo's
Probably doesn't make your typical classics list, but Jacques IMO's is hands-down my favorite spot for old school cajun eats. The atmosphere, the people and the food embody quintessential New Orleans to me. Plus that crawfish cheesecake keeps me up at night.
