Fiaschetteria "Pistoia"
My favorite neighborhood spot for Italian. Small, charming, and instead of a wine list they bring over a basket of wine bottles for you to choose. My go-to is the pappardelle al ragu and tiramisu. Definitely get the tiramisu.

Ippudo NY
It's a very popular spot and they don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait, but they have some of the best ramen I've ever tasted

Giano
Another Italian favorite. It's more of a date night spot but its tiramisu is also amazing, as is its pasta.

Upland
Good for brunch. Best-known for their burger (which Obama famously ordered in 2015)

Nyonya
Great Asian fusion. I love their Hainanese chicken with rice and watermelon juice. But be warned: they're cash only.

Tompkins Square Bagels
Not a restaurant per se, but they have the best bagels. Cash only.

Victor's Cafe
I usually avoid Midtown like the plague, but I can't resist their coconut mojitos

Raku
Small, nondescript restaurant in the East Village serving some of the best udon in the city. Easy to miss given there's no sign with the restaurant's name out front, but even then I had to wait an hour for a seat. It was worth it.

Joe's Pizza Broadway
On the pricier side, but great if you want a quintessential New York pizza.
