No atmosphere but fantastic Lebanese food. The Fattoosh salad, haloumi, hummus and Tabbooleh are consistently great.

Home Team BBQ
Great place to watch the games. Nachos are game-changing, pun intended! Even has a signature drink called the ”Game Changer”, or as I call it, the blackout special! Better spots for hardcore BBQ though.

Minero
Best Mexican (as in Mexico, not Texas) in town. No sour cream here. One of the best burritos I’ve ever had complete with homemade Queso de Oaxaca. Tacos fantastic - try the Carnitas and the Fried Catfish. Tortillas made fresh in-house.

Little Jack's Tavern
Feels like stepping into an old school Italian joint on Bleecker street in NYC. Great double burger - cheesy goodness - and garlic fries.

Halls Chophouse
A Charleston institution. Impeccable service. Very casual and friendly bar scene. Like stepping back into a restaurant my parent’s would have loved in the 80’s but in the best possible way. Great steaks. Try the tempura lobster! Have someone else pay!

Oak Steakhouse
Probably the best steak in town. I recommend the ribeye. Great spot on Broad Street. Hit the Blind Tiger afterward for drinks in the back courtyard.

The Tattooed Moose
Best dive for hangover food. If you’re feeling awful, I’d recommend the Duck Club sandwich and the gravy fries with blue cheese and roasted garlic! Then take a long nap...

The Establishment
This is a beautiful new restaurant on Broad Street near Oak and the Blind Tiger. The bar is amazing as it has a huge TV installation showing rotating views of beautiful nature scenes from around the world - beaches, mountains, cliffs, the ocean, etc. There is also a great chef’s bar wrapping around the kitchen where you can really experience the activity in the kitchen. The food is great, mostly seafood oriented and seasonal. The crab pasta is super decadent.

Sushi Wa Izakaya
Absolutely hands down the best sushi in Charleston. Traditional Japanese. Absolutely no Americanized b/s rolls with mayo all over them. The provenance of every fish and crustacean on the menu is listed on the blackboard - the global diversity of ingredient sourcing extends from Japan, to Santa Barbara, to New Zealand, to Alaska to South Carolina, etc. You can’t go wrong with the chef’s 10pc nigiri omakase for $40 - seafood this good would be $80-100 in NYC.

Goat. Sheep. Cow.
Wonderful local cheese shop with lots of rare cheeses and knowledgeable staff. Daily sandwich special is always delicious but sells out fast. I recommend to go and request a tasting of the best cheeses before deciding.

Great new French restaurant with a seasonal menu on King Street across from Melfi’s. The Heirloom Tomatoes 🍅 (pictured), the Tuna Crudo special and the Steak Frites 🥩 were all fantastic.

BASIC KITCHEN
Great spot with decor like sunshine and healthy eats including vegan options. The Cauliflower “Wings”, the Basic Bowl (pictured, but I prefer to add salmon and avocado to mine), the Vegan Caesar and the Vietnamese Steak Salad are standouts.

Beautiful space. Food is creative, fresh and local, changing seasonally. Great spot for some very satisfying vegetarian and vegan dishes given the focus on fresh produce.

Renzo
Fantastic little neighborhood restaurant serving delicious individual size wood fired pizzas, some with very unique topping combos, and a variety of other tapas style dishes. I loved the Mayor Quimby Pizza (littleneck clams, etc) as well as the Heirloom Tomato Salad with Tonnato Sauce, the Warm Olives, the Spring Salad (with amazing dried cherries and pecorino) and the Sabich-style Baby Eggplant.

Xiao Bao Biscuit
Always fresh and innovative Asian inspired food. Very casual and a great laid back vibe in a converted old gas station. Great for lunch or dinner. The Okonomiyaki is a must order as is the fish curry. The Sichuan Sting may be my favorite cocktail in Charleston - the sichuan pepper numbs your mouth!
