Carmen Y Juan's
If you find yourself way out on Route 17 in Mount Pleasant, hungry and lamenting all the strip malls and fast food options, duck into this hole-in-the-wall, no frills, scratch-made Mexican joint. It’s all super simple but delicious. The chips and salsa are clearly homemade and hit your table the moment you sit down. The Street Tacos are a signature dish - you can choose 3 different meats. I had the Carnitas, Pastor and Steak and all were great. The Chicken Enchiladas con Mole was also delicious. Definitely worth a visit if you’re out this way (eh hem! all those parents who have to hike out here for kids soccer at Carolina Park!).

El Pincho Taco
This is a nice little authentic Mexican joint on upper Meeting Street under the highway interchange. The tacos are delicious - I had the al Pastor, the Barbacoa and the Campechano (a blend of seasoned steak 🥩 and chorizo). They also offer six different salsas / sauces which were all great. The only problem was this - DO NOT get the tortilla chips. Very disappointing - full of greasy and actually chewy. Hopefully they’ll figure that out and the recommendation will be even stronger.
