The Brooklyn Mirage
Probably my favorite live music venue in the NYC area. I've only been for electronic music. The place is gigantic and has walkways around the top of the walls where you can chill with nice views of the city. Usually it's not too crowded but it has been getting more and more crowded especially since Output closed.

Rockwood Music Hall
One of my favorite smaller live music venues. There are 3 stages. 2 of them are tiny - the room is usually packed shoulder-to-shoulder. Good mix of music styles. The two smaller stages are usually free and the bigger room is usually a $10-20 cover. Mostly smaller, local acts. Great area to check out other venues and bars as well.

Live jazz most if not all nights. Usually a small cover. It's a small place so the acts are usually quartets or quintets. A range from bop to Mike Stern (a regular) to Wayne Krantz (played a LOT here back in the day and plays there from time to time) to Jim Campilongo
