Must See Cities in Italy 🇮🇹
I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy and my absolute favorite memories are from here. I have a sweet spot for the small, charming authentic Italian villages as much as I love visiting the big touristy cities. This guide will include a little bit of both, and have you dreaming of your future Italian holiday.

Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre literally translates to “Five Lands” - it is a string of century old seaside towns o the Italian Riviera coastline. It is hard to get around by car due to the landscape, but a train runs from each of the five cities very efficiently, although crowded in the Summer. There is also a walking trail that connects the towns that I highly recommend using to commute from town to town because it offers the absolute best views of the whole region. Each town spécialisés in locally produced wines that is available for tasting in most restaurants. This region is also famous for being the origin of pesto and produces the freshest in the world. A day in the cinque Terre drinking wine and eating pesto pasta? You can’t get much better than that.

Pompeii
Pompeii is truly amazing. Walking through the ancient Roman city allows you to see what it was like living thousands of years ago. A lot of it is still persevered under the ash, and the history is frozen in time. It is easy to get to from Naples & the Amalfi Coast, if you are staying there. Make sure you plan a whole day for this, there is so much to see and do around here!!

Florence
Florence is a central city in the beautiful Tuscany region of Italy. It it the birthplace of the Renaissance and the famous Medici family that played an important part in the financial & political history of Italy. It is noted for its culture, Renaissance art & architecture. While in Florence i would make sure you visit: The Uffizi Gallery (where the David is), Galleria dell’Academia, Piazza Della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio (famous watch bridge), Santa Maria del Fiore (photo above), and my favorite, watching sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo where you can sit with a bottle of wine at sunset and look out over the whole city.

Positano
One of the many lovely villages one the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy. Spend the afternoon strolling through the cobble streets checking out all the fun boutiques and cafes. Easily to get to from Naples, Sorrento, or Amalfi. Fantastic views of the sea and beautiful beaches. Don’t miss this one!!

Rome
Rome is the most populated and famous city in Italy, for good reason. You have probably learned a lot about it from school and history and always dreamt of going. It truly is as magnificent as people say it is. The amount of history, art, & culture packed into this one city is incredible. When in Rome I would not miss going to: Vatican City & Sistine Chapel, Saint Peters Basilica, the Spanish Steps the Pantheon, the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and Roman Forum.

Assisi
Assisi, Italy. This place is an actual dream. It is a small, historic town on a vast hillside in the Umbria region of Italy. It is famous for the many old churches around the town, the most iconic being Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi. The architecture & atmosphere of Assisi makes you feel like your in the 1300’s. The restaurants are authentic, fresh, and so deliciously Italian. It is such a magical experience to walk through the small alleys and hills of this town and probably my favorite place in the world I have visited.

Sorrento
Sorrento is a small seaside town overlooking Naples Bay on the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy. It is vastly different from the larger cities like Rome & Florence. It is commonly known for its small, antique shops that line the tiny cobblestone streets. The beach is public access and lovely to spend the afternoon at or take some photos. If you are driving, the streets are very crowded and parking is limited, so plan ahead. Once you’ve arrived however it is so easy to fall in love with this little town.

Venice
Venice is a must see city in Italy for obvious reasons, it is one of the most mused at and historically dense areas in the world. When you go, I suggest staying for a few days because there is a lot more to see than just St Marks Square & Saint Marks Basilica. You will find the best Italian food and the kindest Venetians if you travel off the beaten path and get lost in the maze of canals and alleys that cover the entire city. Carve out an entire day of your itinerary to wander away from the crowds and just walk wherever the alleys take you, I promise you will get lost and I promise you will be okay with it.

Urbino
Urbino is a medieval walled city on a sloping hillside in the Marche region of Italy. It is very centrally located in the country and easily accessible if you are travelling by car. You have to take an actual cable car up into the city because of the geography of the hill it lays on. The architecture that has remained intact is quite remarkable considering the main Palazzo Ducale began construction in 1454. If you are a history buff or want an unfiltered Italian experience, I would recommend checking out Urbino.

Milan
If Milan were a person it would be Fashionable, Dramatic, and Ambitious. I highly recommend visiting this even if you aren’t into high-end shopping or expensive dining, there is so much class and beauty in this large city and activités you can do for free. While visiting Milan i would go to: Duomo Di Milano (photo above), Galleria Vittoria Emanuele ll, Teatro alla Scala, Santa Maria Della Grazie (the Last Supper), and Corso Vittoria Emanuele ll (one of the most famous shopping streets in the world). There is a very happening nightlife and club scene as well. If your extra brave, visit Milan during fashion week!

Capri
Capri 🤤 words can not describe the beauty of Capri. It is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula. There is multiple ferries every day from Naples, Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi. Anacapri (a small town on the Island) can’t be missed, as well as the Blue grotto (a cave accessible by boat), and Monte Solaro (best views of the sea and island). The water is so blue and the landscape is so breathtaking.
