Amsterdam
Amsterdam in a day is quite impossible as there is so many places to see and things to do. If you set aside the 'coffee shops' and the Red Light district you can immerse yourself in this charming old city. There are many great places to eat, shop and drink in Amsterdam. Take a canal cruise or check out the museums, there is so much to this city that you can easily spend a few days here. Enjoy!

Amsterdam Cheese Museum
I love cheese. This museum and store is a fun place for those who love cheese as much as I do. You can try out all the cheese they have to offer which was cool. There was beer cheese, truffle cheese, pesto cheese, aged cheese- so many cheeses! There is also a cheese museum if you have time after trying out all the yummy cheeses!

Rijksmuseum
One of the top museums in Amsterdam, this seems to be on everyone's to do list. It is a beautiful museum showcasing the best regional (Pre-renaissance and after) artworks from many Masters. Purchase your ticket prior, there will be a queue but at least you will have your ticket.

De Wallen
aka The Red Light District - I think everyone is curious about the Red Light District and if you are not a prude then a walk through Amsterdam's famous district is an eye opener. You will know when you find it, trust me! It becomes a "Where do I look? Straight ahead!" It is quite the experience!

Van Gogh Museum
One of the best museums that I have been to. The VG Museum walks you through the life of Van Gogh. From his beginnings as an artist, his letters to his brother and his relationships with other famous artists. Plus you appreciate the evolution of his brushstrokes and works all the way until he was institutionalized and on to his death. The Van Gogh museum creates an incredible journey of this Master.

Keukenhof
Tulips in Holland? Most definitely! Keukenhof Gardens showcases the loveliest spring blooms and tulips that Holland has to offer. It is not too far outside of Amsterdam and you can pre-purchase tickets online with RT bus transportation. The blooms are seasonal, so check their website for dates.

Anne Frank House
One of Amsterdam's busiest tourist spots so purchase your tickets online. You enter in groups so everything is timed. If you are familiar with the story of Anne Frank, visiting the quarters where she lived for several years is chilling. It puts everything into perspective on how her family lived before being turned in and sent to camps. This is a definite must see!

Amsterdam Canal Cruises
If in Amsterdam, one must cruise the canals to see the city from a different perspective. There are various canal cruise tours that will take you along the waterways. One option is the Hop on Hop off boat that will take you to various tourist locations around the city.

The Oude Church
If you enjoy old buildings, you should check out the Oude Kerk which is the oldest building and church in Amsterdam. Interestingly enough, the Oude Kerk is in the Red Light District so you can see how open minded this city is. This church dates back to the 1200s and although the inside is relatively empty, you can still feel the grandeur of this cathedral.

New York Film Academy Café
This café is not too far from the Central Train Station and is a nice place for a pick me up if you are in the area. I will say that the Dutch Apple pie here is fantastic with the added whipped cream. It is in a touristy area but the café is nice and quiet especially if you need to decompress for a few.

't Smalle
This historic brown café in Amsterdam is a definite must if you want to feel old Amsterdam within a bustling city with modern restaurants. They offer drinks and delicious bites. I suggest the Warm Goat Cheese sandwich with honey, nuts and thyme. If you are there on a cold day, the Hot Chocolate with rum is a great pick me up!

Febo
This place is a fun automat, which is like a vending machine for hot foods! The prices are cheap and if you need something fast and inexpensive, just put your coins in and push the button. The door opens and then grab your burger or croquettes. BTW the croquettes here are pretty decent! Multiple locations!

Pannenkoekenboot Amsterdam
aka The Pancake Boat is just that. A cruise in Amsterdam with all you can eat - build your own pancakes (sweet or savory). You can purchase your tickets online but you will have to take a free ferry from behind the Central Station. This is a fun thing to do with friends, solo and is also family friendly.

The Pancake Bakery
Opened since 1973, The Pancake Bakery has been serving traditional Dutch pancakes of both sweet and savory fillings. This is a great place to try out what Dutch pancakes are all about. Yes, it is a bit touristy but the options and the proportions are worth the visit. The Ham and Cheese is very good and everything is big enough to share!

Café Américain
Since 1905, this Grand Art Deco Café has been a hot spot for artists, elites and tourists alike. You can come in for a drink, coffee or a meal. It is reasonably priced and a nice place to start the day or unwind after checking out the city.

Sham Syrisch Restaurant
Sham is a delicious Syrian restaurant outside the tourist area of Amsterdam. The food is incredible as well as the service. I highly recommend the various kebabs, hummus, Syrian tea and baklava.
