Dubrovnik
A cruise line favorite and a Game of Thrones stop for fans. And a destination for everyone walking behind tour guides with numbered signs. It’s crowded as hell. Best time to go would be evening when the passengers return to their ship and most every one else goes back to their busses and hotels. It’s also crazy expensive. Prices have doubled in the last year. Only go if you’re a GOT fan.

Rila Monastery
Two hours into the mountains from Sofia sits this UNESCO world heritage site. Get there early to avoid the tour busses. Well worth the visit. You can arrange for a tour bus if you don’t have a car. The Monastery has a couple of cafes on the property.

Minoan Palace of Knossos
A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Knossos was the center of Minoan civilization. Crete itself is a lovely location to visit for a couple of days. Very different from mainland Greece. You’ll need three or more hours to walk the Palace.

Delphi
Modest entry fee, no tour guide needed. Just read up on Wikipedia before you go. You can spend two hours here easy. And the museum is just down the walking path. Glad I finally had the chance to visit.

Angkor Thom
The Angkor Wat complex is made up of a number of temples. Angkor Thom is not the largest, but it’s one of the most interesting.
