Italy
Italy was once the center of the world, and if you're a history or food buff, it might still be. The long-established Italian culture varies slightly from region to region, with variations in dialect, cuisine, and landscapes. My personal favorites were Milan, the Lago Maggiore area, the Dolomites, and Palermo in Sicily.

Colombia
Despite it's turbulent past, Colombia is currently thriving as a new tourist destination. Aside from popular destinations of Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena, the country has a beautiful coffee farming region, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Parque Tairona, and many other enticing destinations. The city of Cali is known as the world's Salsa Capital, with a huge festival taking place between Christmas and New Years.

Spain
Before going, I only associated Spain with its sunny mediterranean beaches; however, the country also has the beautiful Pyrenees Mountains in the Northwest, several deserts, and of course beautiful cities like Sevilla, Valencia, and more.

United States
As such an expansive country, the USA encompasses many climates, landscapes, cultures, and traditions. My favorite areas are the Northeast, the Rockies, and the Pacific Northwest. From both a cultural and an environmental perspective, they're the areas that have the most to offer.

Switzerland
Switzerland is quite interesting in that it's an amalgamation of French, German, and Italian cultures. The transecting alps means there's tons of hiking, skiing, camping, etc. Places like Interlaken are known around the world as a mecca for adventure. The only downside is the currency - the Swiss Franc - is quite expensive.

China
Countries aren't perfect, and China is no exception. However, I found the people very welcoming to foreigners, and the cities were filled with tons to see. Of course the customs are very different from those in the western world, so that alone is enough reason to go. Yet the country also has a deep history that's easy to discover in places like Xi'an and The Great Wall.
