Francis Marion Hotel
Stephen Colbert’s mother ran a now-defunct B&B in Charleston as he was growing up, so he is familiar with the industry. He recommended two Charleston hotels to stay at in a T&L article and Francis Marion was one of them- which is known for their great views of the harbor

The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel
Stephen Colbert mentioned the Mills House hotel as one of two hotels he’d recommend in the city, according to an interview with Travel and Leisure. He grew up not to far from the hotel, in a neighborhood south of Broad street.

Hominy Grill
Stephen Colbert said “I want shrimp and hominy when I’m in Charleston, at whatever place doesn’t call hominy grits.” He said he gets that or the catch or the day at Hominy Grill, which is a local southern food staple in Charleston

Stephen Colbert said “We’d go swimming off Sullivan’s Island. Afterwards we’d walk in to local bars with any kind of fake ID- a piece of paper that just about announced you were 18- and they’d serve you a beer”

Shem Creek Music Center
Stephen Colbert, who grew up in Charleston, has been seen a few times at Shem Creek Music, including during Christmastime. Another celebrity, Danny McBride, has been spotted at the same music store

Husk
Stephen Colbert said: “Husk has fantastic fried chicken skin and a watermelon salad that’s really delicious. I like that everything there is focused on being from south of the Mason-Dixon Line.”
