February 2019 Antigua trip ⛱🏝🇦🇬
by drew
I attended my friends' wedding where a huge group of my favorite people in the world explored the island for 10 days. Mind explosions ensued!

Antigua's Donkey Santuary Humane Society
One of the most memorable parts about my time in Antigua so far! Since technology made the use of donkeys as farm helpers obsolete, many of them have returned to the wild and continued to thrive here on the island. Unfortunately, as the number of automobiles and population on the island grows, more of these buddies are getting themselves into danger or getting hit by cars, so the Humane Society decided to create a safe place for donkeys to call home. Pictured is my friend Kylie giving Stevie some scratches. Stevie was blinded after being hit by a car, but the caretakers tell us that he knows his way around the sanctuary for food, water, and his own little shelter.

Stingray City Antigua
Sting Ray City delivered a pretty jam packed afternoon, guided by Captain Hercules (his mom calls him Adrian, but he said we're not allowed to) and Captain Mark. We started out with a kayak your through the local mangroves, where we got the opportunity to hold jellyfish, sea cucumber, starfish, and even saw a young barracuda! Then we took a boat ride (pictured) up to Great Bird Island to snorkel through some coral reef, and hike around the small island, where we found one of ~1500 existing Antiguan Racer Snakes. On the way back, we stopped by a sand bar that had loads of sting rays hanging out looking for snacks! Thankfully, our gracious captains kept us hydrated with plenty of rum punch on our journey. 🍷🤣

Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is home to some ridiculously fun waves for body surfing, knee boarding, or just filling your ears with saltwater, etc. And there's an amazing little beach shack here that'll dish up helluva fish burger! 🐟🌊

Devil's Bridge
We stopped here for the sunset after our catamaran cruise around the island. The waves on the Atlantic were good and choppy that day, so things were getting pretty exciting out there! (We heard that someone even got swept out to sea and died earlier that day 😬, so be extra careful around the edges of the rocks!!)
